Hi, I am just getting my Myth box working and I am trying to work out a couple of things. The topic of this question is about the quality of my recordings. Live TV is pretty good. The only problem with it is the sharpness. The video looks real soft. If I could sharpen it somewhat that would be great. If you can do this how so. The REAL problem is with recorded video from the tuner. I get a great deal of video disruptions mainly during commercials, which I thought had to do with commercial flagging. BUT this is also occurring during the show I am recording. Could this have to do with the emblems and over screen announcements that some stations put on the show? Is there a way to adjust this to remove these disruptions? If so how so.... Thanks to all again. d |

OK I did some experimenting. I recorded several programs with commercial flagging off and all of the video distortions that I described are now gone. Is there a problem with commercial flagging? Can it be fixed? Thanks d |

I believe there are some posts in the forum on this topic -- try a search. If a recall, the problem is that commercial flagging on some machines utilizes too much resource and resuls in a loss of data if a recording is happening while flagging is running. A lot will have to do with the speed of your processor, your disks, the type of encoder you are using (hardware vs. software) and other factors I haven't though of off the top of my head. I find that the 30-second skip-forward/8-second skip-backwards is a very effective way to skip commercials. Marc |

Go to mythtv-setup and there is an option of when to allow jobs (or something of that nature). You can set a start and stop time. I know I watch most of my TV during the hours of 8pm and 11pm, so I only allow jobs to run between midnight and 7pm. This keeps the commercial detection (which is CPU intensive) from occurring while I watch TV. So if I am watching a newly recorded show, I can't take advantage of commercial skipping, but if I wait until the next day, the commercials are all marked. |
