Mythburn never worked for my on R5C7, after trying for a while I just gave up on it and accepted my fate. :-)

Today, I decided to try MythBurn on R5D1 in a squeaky clean environment.

What I did:

I unplugged my original R5C7 hard drive and plugged in a new 160Gig drive. I booted to the R5D1 CD and did a straight autoinstall. After configuring my video cards (1 PVR350 and 1 PVR500), I commented the "skip_networking" option in /etc/mysql/my.cnf. I then powered off, plugged up my original R5C7 Hard Drive as a secondary. I booted up, mounted /dev/hdb1 to /mnt/hdb1. From my R5C7 hard drive I only copied my XF86Config-4 file (for 720p VGAout on a FX5200 to an Audio Authority VGA-Component adapter) and my /etc/ssh/* config files (and restarted sshd).

Ok Now I'm ready to try MythBurn, I fired up Live TV and recorded about 2 minutes of two different shows. I setup mythburn to make .ISO images and convert audio to AC3. Upon execution I received error in the log below during the mplex operation.

Anyone have an idea what's going on? I'd really like to get this working.

Thanks!

EtherNut

Have you tried it without the "convert to AC3" option? It works for me without that option on R5C7. But I get the same error as you if AC3 is selected. Others get the same thing as discussed on http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11268 but no one has offered a solution. Can you tell me what the benefits are to converting to AC3?

I tried it without the AC3 option as you suggested and it completed sucessfully. I burned the .ISO I created to a DVD and popped it in my XBOX360. The menusystem came up and played just fine until I tried to play the show, then nothing.

The importance of AC3 (for NTSC) is that it's native the container audio format for most all DVD's (others are PCM and DTS). By choosing not to record in AC3 you seriously limit the DVD players that will play the dvd to players. AC3 is usually attributed to 5.1, but all player understand AC3, so that was what I was hoping to achieve.

I saw some posts indicating that it could be a problem with ffmpeg. I downloaded ffmpeg from SVN and recompiled it using:

./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-mp3lame --enable-libogg --enable-vorbis --enable-faad --enable-faadbin --enable-faac --enable-xvid --enable-dts --enable-gpl --disable-debug --cpu=i686-linux-gnu

make
make install

I tried to rerun the mythburn process with AC3 conversion and still no dice.

If you haven't seen this thread, check out http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10400. It may be the fix for your disk not playing after the menu. It was definitely a problem with R5C7 and maybe wasn't fixed in R5D1 either. But several people on that thread said the fix worked for them and it did for me too. I'd be curious to know if this is still a problem on D1 so post if it fixes this problem for you.

Hopefully someone will come up with an AC3 fix here too.

I very much appreciate the reply. In R5D1 (according to my machine), the $pageresolution and $aspectRatio are already correct according to the thread for /myth/mythburn/mythtvburn.sh.

I just made another .ISO and tried the DVD in my Xbox360. Same result though, the menu comes up just fine but when I click on the image to play the move, it just sits there. I t actually acts as if it has locked up.

I'm not sure here if it's an AC3 issue or some other Mythburn configuration issue causing an incompatibility with my DVD player.

As a side note: the mythburn web interface fails instantly when I try to make a DVD .ISO. I have been using the Mythtv GUI interface and it works ok.

Same thing here. Burned a dvd (all 5 episodes of shin chan that adult swim aired), put it in my 360, picked an episode, and it freezes. BUT, it doesn't actually freeze. If I hit "stop" and then "play", it will play the first menu item regardless of which menu item I actually picked. I don't have another DVD player to test it on, but it's still obviously a problem with mythburn.
