Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of information about the motherboard listed in the title. My current Mythboxen (listed in sig appart from it's now on R5D1) was working well until recently. Unfortunately, I now have a problem I can't seem to solve (my EPG is off, not I hasten to add within the guide itself within. The date and time are correct there, it's just the on-screen display when watching TV. The hardware clock and the sys clock seem to agree as does the time zone... On the onscreen guide the time is right, unfortunately the date has been Jan 1st for about two weeks now. It wouldn't be a problem if all weren't out.) I'm been considering a complete rebuild to solve this. I've also been thinking of getting a new motherboard too as my current mobo doesn't do days of the month so for the wake up to record (by using nvram-wakeup) so I would have to turn the pc on once a day to record something using a custom record. Ok, I know it's not major to create a 1 minute that I recording at 5.30 am each day, but ... Anyhow, I'm going to (hoping to bid on the Asus board on ebay) buy the A7N8X-X board this week and I was wondering does it do days, hours, mins in the BIOS for wake up on alarm so I can use nvram-wakeup? I guess sotries of ease of use, or potential problems would be good too. The only mention of this mobo on the forum I could find was quite old. Thanks Chris ps thanks for reading another long post |

Why not for to the manufactuer's website and download the manual? |

You're right, I should have done that, though my previous experience of mobo manuals is that they are not particularly helpful. Hence asking. |

I have that motherboard. It only stores the hour, minute and second in the wakeup time, not the date. This hasn't been a problem for me because I have a news programme set to record seven days a week. I also had an issue with it losing hours of time a day. It was easily fixed by changing a BIOS setting but I can't remember what it is right now. I can find it and let you know if you end up buying it. |

Hey, Thanks for that. I'll stick with the mobo I've got then. I guess the time issue was the spectrum spread issue that causes time drift. I was actually after an Abit AN7 board, because it had date as well available in it's wakeup on alarm but they kept getting pricey. Regards. oh and I did check the manual online, cecil - you were right. |

I have the A7N8X-E Deluxe so this may or may not apply. Basically I am very happy with everything about this board except wakeup. So much so that if I ever replace it, I will look for a different board. Besides not having day/month, it also requires a reboot if the time is changed. To make things worse, sometime in the Knoppmyth "B" releases, something happened in the linux kernal such that it often fails to wakeup up if shut down from knoppmyth. This isn't an nvram-wakeup problem as it won't wakeup even if I set the time directly in the BIOS. I was forced to always boot into the PowerOff kernal before shutting down. Note: Mythwelcome has an option for a daily wakeup. I haven't used it yet, but it looks like it would solve the missing day/month issue without setting a daily record. If you find a good knoppmyth supporting board that also has good nvram-wakeup support, let us know. Cheers, Allen |

Hi Alien, At the moment my 'other' pc that uses windows has an Abit AN7 mobo, which does support day/hour/min wakeup. Or rather, the BIOS shows that is what it is able to do. I'm not sure about the practicality of it, but at the moment I am not particularly keen on stripping both my Mythbox and my windows pc just to sort this out. (At this time I am kind of committed to keeping the windows box due to girlfriend, job applications, etc. - I daren't start fiddling with it all!) So I'll keep looking on ebay. When I finally get one I'll let you know of the result. Regards |

My A7N8X-Deluxe time drifts about 10 minutes a day (too fast) partially due to the previously mentioned issues as well as mine is overclocked slightly. I have fixed this by having it update the time at 7:00pm every day (from an NTP server on my network that updates every other week) so that timing is correct for primetime shows. One of the other issues that you'll see is that the battery only lasted me about 2.5 years for the first one and I was seeing all kinds of clock errors so I'd grab a new battery to be sure that's not a problem. |

Thanks ik632, I've pretty much made up my mind: I'm going to bag a AN7 mobo from ebay (the original reason for asking about this Asus one was the abit one kept getting too expensive.) They keep seeming to come up, so I'm sure I'll get one at the right price eventually. Until then I can live with it. BTW, have you tried the spread spectrum off trick to cure clock drift? |
