I'd like to acknowledge some cool aspects of R5D1.

1st, this release has current versions of the ALSA sound and nvidia video drivers - no post-install updates necessary! I was able to do an out-of-box install with this one (in reality, I did an upgrade from R5C7) with no workarounds. Love it! :)

2nd, the Mythtv svn code used in R5D1 has its xvmc routines fixed so you can watch live 720p HDTV or recorded 720p HDTV without freezes every 10 seconds! Very smooth! 8)

3rd, apt-get has had its stinger removed so it can't poison your KnoppMyth install any more! I like it! :)

4th, the menu choices for the KnoppMyth Backup and Restore now ask you if you really want to backup/restore - and this keeps you safe from accidently restoring an out-of-date backup and wrecking your database! Nice! :)

5th, the beginning and end of the backup/restore actions are announced by Cecil himself! Nice touch - and a surprise! :)

6th, xine has been updated to the latest, which eliminates the focus stealing bug that had been in the previous versions. Sweet! :D

7th, backup scripts are the most complete I've seen to date. I like the addition of the check_backup script added into the process. Also, the audible feedback from the check_backup script is nice - gets your attention when the backup didn't complete correctly. Keeps our installations safe for Democracy! ;)

There are other improvements too (see the R5D1 changelog), but those are the things I noticed right away.

Thanks to Cecil and all who helped pull R5D1 together. :)

Be careful here, apt-get is and always will be potentially dangerous. The three safety rules still apply.
    - Don't ever use the -y option.
    - Always review the list of packages it wants to add or remove.
    - If in doubt say "no".

I've learned my lesson. I'm now in the habit of using the simulation switch for apt-get before I run it for real! :)

Thanks for all the backup advice. It's working well.
