Ive been trying to use apt-get with no avail, I thought my repos list might have been wrong, but no its correct.

Then I thought Id try and use lynx to see if I can get online
I get the error message

*cannot connect to remote host*

I can ping sites, Ive tried netcardconfig

Its just not working, any suggestions Ideas would be great because without an internet connection the box is not reaching its potential.

One thought, I did have the same problem on the same network using fedora core 5, changing the ipv6 setting in firefox allowed me to browse.

Cheers

PS advise is needed on cutting and pasting results of ifconfig, please bear in mind Im a relative n00b

I thought it might be a DNS problem. My IP, broadcast and netmask addresses are all good (as expected as I can ping sites by IP and name)

my /etc/resolv.conf looks like

search
nameserver 10.1.1.1

This is my gateway address. My router is giving out the DNS information of my ISP, I think the problem might be here, but when I put my ISPs nameserver in I cant even ping sites by name. Could this be due to the way my router is configured?
