Is it conceivable to put /myth on a network drive? I was thinking I could get rid of hard disk noise in my living room by recording and playing back from a disk that's in another room. I know I could run a separate frontend and server, but then I'd have to rewire a bunch of stuff under my house, which I'm too lazy to do. :D

The way I figure, at 2GB of MPEG2 per hour, that's

2 * 1024 * 8 / 60 / 60 = 4.55 Mbit/s

transfer rate. Even with simultaneous record/playback, it sounds doable for a 100Mbit network, no? Am I smoking crack?

Boris

You may want to turn on "extra buffering" to avoid any skips due to network latency issues but aside from that your math agrees with mine.

BTW - If you search, there are actually postings around here by folks who've done this...
