Post subject:  EPIA system not enough ??

Hi everyone !!!

I'm trying to set up an EPIA to use with KnoppMyth. The model is the following:

http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/mainb ... oard_id=21

The CPU runs at 533Mhz and memory is 256MB. It also has a 40GB HD.

I've installed KnoppMyth on "auto" mode and tried to watch my media collection.

Result is that DivX goes quite well, but when i play original DVDs, there are many "jumps" in the movie and i even got a message saying that the number of dropped frames was too high.

I intend to use my system, first as a DivX/DVD/VCD/MP3 player, but in the future my aim is to watch/record DVB-T.

Question is: is my hardware enough for the task ??? Wich tweaks should i make to Knoppix in order to watch everything correctly ???

Any given help will be truyly appreciated. Thanks in advance !!!!!!

Not sure if it will make a big difference, but the OpenChrome drivers might help: http://www.openchrome.org/

Post subject:  Unichrome will make a difference...

I run a MII12000.

I *need* to offload MPEG decoding to the CLE266
chipset, so I am sure you do too. Interestingly, your board
looks to be one of the older, original EPIAs and
provides a PLE133 northbridge - which is not listed as compatible
with OpenChrome and (I think) Unichrome.

Question: what is the relationship between OpenChrome
www.openchrome.org and
Unichrome http://unichrome.sourceforge.net/?

A few versions of KM+unichrome ago, I used to see << 20% CPU
during playback. Now I see more, I dont know why.
But it does mean its going to be a close run thing for you.

I know that there are other people who run the eden chipset,
but none on such an old mobo.

Good luck.
