Post subject:  Fonts too small

Hi guys
I installed KnoppMyth while testing my new HTPC with a VGA monitor.
Then I connected it to my 1280x720 projector by a DVI-HDMI cable.
The image is fine but EVERY fonts displayed are so small that only main menu options are barely recognizable...
How can I increase font size? You can guide me by telling the sequence keys to go through the menus, since I cannot read them, or by command line from the shell.
I tried to edit XF86Config-4 file by adding (using NANO) "UseEdidDpi" "False" and "DisplaySize 1280 1024" as read in another post with the opposite problem, but with no effects... HELP!!

I think you misunderstood what those numbers mean. Start here, http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=FontSizeHowTo but also see this posting for how the calculations work. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6118&highlight=displaysize

Try
Code:
DisplaySize 271 203

In your XF86Config-4 file under the Monitor Section.... That should force 75 dpi fonts (I find the 100 dpi to be too large) for an 800x600 aspect ratio.

I know you are at 1280x720 but these numbers scale the font. Let me know how it works.

On my Samsung DLP RPTV over DVI, 1280x720, the DisplaySize setting had no effect.

This did (in the Monitor section):
Code:
   Option  "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
   Option  "DPI" "100 x 100"

I Also added the ATSC mode to my 24bit modes list:
Code:
   SubSection "Display"
      Depth     24
      Modes "ATSC-720-59.94p" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
   EndSubSection

I tried ATSC-720-60p first, but it had some jitter on the SD material, looked like a sticky frame or a deinterlacing artifact. doesn't happen for me at 59.94p.
