Since returning from London at the end of last month, I've been working on a new release. This release has been started from scratch using Debian Sid and the scripts from Knoppix 5.01. With the exception of last week when I wasn't well, I've been working on it almost every free hour I've had. The testers have gotten several releases and have started testing! It is my hope that by month's end, I'll have a solid release for the testers to give the thumb's up to. This however doesn't mean that a general public release will be ready by month's end. One of the new features will be auto install to SATA!

A few days behind schedule, but it should be well worth the wait!

Things are looking good! Only a few bugs remain. The new release includes:
    2.6.18
    xorg
    udev
    auto install/upgrade to sata
    and a few more surprises!

All this and it is smaller in size and according to my unscientific tests, boots faster!

Not that I know much, but I'll try to translate. Anyone feel free to add/correct.

2.6.18

Update the Linux kernel from 2.6.17

xorg

Something to do with video. It looks like lots of distros have switched from XFree86 to X.org, and there's a lot more development activity on X.org. I expect this will imact our modelines, but that there'll be a guide that should be read before upgrading.
See: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=219929

udev

Virtual device support. From what I read on wikipedia, it seems to be akin to plug-n-play for Linux. I expect it'll make it a lot simpler to use USB sticks, cameras, etc..
see: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/hotplug/udev-FAQ
and: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udev

auto install/upgrade to sata

No explanation needed! SATA-based KnoppMyth machines should be easily expandable, and will take advantage of the higher I/O rates, speeding up things like commflag and transcoding.
