Hey all,

There's a new release of ivtv, 0.7.2, just released on 01 Dec. This release fixed the tinny scratchy audio on my second tuner (PVR500). I understand some others with dual tuners also were having audio problems, so it might be worth upgrading.

Hope that helps at least a few of you :)

The upgrade instructions on the wiki work with the appropriate version substitutions. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

My brief experiments with 0.7.2's twin for the 2.6.18 kernel, ivtv 0.8.1 showed some funky tuning artifacts and some recurring image breakup, possibly related to the old DMA based tearing problems, or the fix where the digitizer is left running during channel changes. As a result if you're not having problems with 0.7.0 or 0.7.1 I do not recommmend upgrading to 0.7.2.

I am wondering if this release fixes any video problems with the new PVR-500's? My picture is OK right now, but it could be much better.

Here's the list of things addressed in this release.

- No longer turn the digitizer off and on when changing channels, caused the tinny audio!
- Fix encoder pause/resume: these two were swapped.
- Firmware loading has been made more robust
Thanks to Robert Hardy <rhardy@webcon.ca>.
- Firmware loading once again supports ppc.
- Fix nasty bug when loading the init mpeg file
Thanks to Robert Hardy <rhardy@webcon.ca>.
- Fix VIDIOC_STREAMOFF support.
- saa717x fixes for Japanese cards.

I'm not sure it'll fix any video problems with the newer pvr500's though. I don't suppose it can hurt to try it, and if it does, I don't think rolling back would be to difficult.

I almost added that rolling back is simply a matter of following the upgrade procedure with the original version, but decided that was "obvious". ;-)

The ivtv upgrade procedure is very low risk as a result. If you decide that a new driver isn't quite right it takes all of about 10 minutes to get back to the original.

I figured as much, but thought I'd let somebody who really knows what they're talking about fill in the blank :D

Thanks tcj!

Was just wondering since I had to apply a patch for the last ivtv to enable my PVR-500 to work correctly. Prior to the patch the PVR-500 showed only static. After the patch the picture is much better but still has some fuzz to it.

I will backup and install the new ivtv tonight and let go from there.

spideyk21 - If you still have the original directory with the patched version of the source under /usr/src you can revert simply by going to it and doing "make && make install"

I upgraded and the picture is about 2% better/clearer. Hoping the next release of Knoppmyth does the trick. I will try playing around with an amplifier and such.

You seeing any weirdness on channel changes? Testing with 0.8.1 showed wild Moire patterns on every switch followed by a minute or so of glitchy reception with lots of tearing.

No problems here. Everything looks fine on my monitor, but I still have to set things up for the TV.
