This confuses me: when you're setting up channels in the channel-editor - for DVB-T in my case - you have to do it in kHz. (Actually - it might even be Hz - I don't have my box in front of me to check.)

Whatever - absolute frequency is a PITA. When setting up for the capture-card we fill in a box for selecting the channel-numbering strategy for the part of the world you live in. I'm in the UK, so I select "Europe West", yet it seems that that setting has no purpose. What I'd expect to see is the ability to select (in my case) "PAL-I UK/Ireland" and then in the channel editor be able to specify a channel frequency as "Ch.25" or maybe "I 25".

The letter-suffix on the TV system ('I' in my case) specifies a lookup table for the channel numbers and their frequencies. It is IIRC unique in the world. Much of western Europe uses a system known as B/G, B being the channel allocations on VHF and G being the channel allocations on UHF. So likewise, if you specified "PAL-B/G Western Europe" it would allow users in Benelux, Germany, Austria etc to use their countries' channel numbers rather than have to grovel all over the net looking for the frequencies in MHz.

The DVB-T users apparently need the ability to specify offsets (in 125kHz I believe) on top of the official channel-number. This could be done by specifying "I26++" to mean 250kHz offset above the official frequency for channel 26 on system I. Likewise of course "-" and "--" could denote offsets down from offical channel numbers.

Any comments on this? It's the sort of GUI issue that blocks the widespread adoption of MythTV beyond geeks. (And yes, I'm a geek under that definition, but even I find channels specified in MHz/kHz/Hz to be awkward).

Steve.
