Just took the plunge and upgraded (great job cesman on the build cesman) from A30.2 to D1. Has anyone else noticed a speed decrease in the GUI? After the upgrade, I seem to wait 2-3 seconds after selecting a menu item (i.e. select video and hit enter, then wait, then it displays). This is in pretty stark contrast to A30.2 which was nice and snappy.

Anyone else? Perhaps I configured something incorrectly.

Athlon 1900+ on nforce2 board w/ 512 meg RAM using onboard GF video.
Running the nvidia 9631 driver.

Thanks for any suggestions, all.

Try turning off the new graphics gizmos (OpenGL?) in the setup. That was a change in Myth 0.20, and maybe it's causing your slowdown.

The only option I see for opengl is under setup>appearance>paint engine (either Gt or OpenGL) and mine is set to Qt. Is this what you're talking about?

That's probably it. I'm back on 0.19 for now, until the new KM is ready, so I can't check. Try switching, and you should notice a visible "fade transition" in the menus. If it does, then that's what I was thinking about, and you may already have it turned off anyway...

No, but there are a set of debs from Cecil which let update R5D1 to 0.20 along with directions and even scripts for building it yourself. The version in the DEBs was a little out of date with the latest 0.20-fixes last time I checked, and still showed the AMD64 performance issues that Human and others were working on. I suspect that this is what thornsoft is talking about.

Yes, sorry. I DID have things confused. I was thinking about R5D1+0.20. Regular R5D1, which I AM running now, doesn't have the OpenGL stuff. Sorry 'bout that.

@tjc: I used cesman's instructions in this thread to upgrade from the standard R5D1 to 0.20. Is my performance issue related to that in your opinion? I dunno how easy it would be to roll back to the standard R5D1.

Since you upgraded to 0.20, odds are it isn't going to be easy to downgrade to 0.19 since the db was upgraded. You could try an auto-upgrade if you have done much... I've personally never seen a performance decrease in released version. I am seeing improved performance in the E series.

I ended-up going back to R5D1 (with my older backup files before I upgraded to 0.20) and everything is fine now. As well, the speed of the GUI is nice and responsive -- no lag like when I ran the 0.20 version.

I don't know what to say beyond what I wrote already about it (lag was present with either Qt or opengl as the painter).

Are you running on an AMD64? Human was tracking down some issues with that but they weren't _that_ extreme and mainly showed up in HDTV playback.

Not a 64bit chip, tjc. It's an athlon xp 1900+/nforce2 based setup. Something was wrong with that build on my hardware; the out-of-the-box R5D1 runs just as fast as my older build w/ R5A30.2 on the same hardware.
