When I try to watch live tv I get a blank screen popping up, then nothing. I have to start an xterm and kill the front end to recover.

I tried deleting my card, etc in setup, and re-adding them but still no joy.

However the following works:
1. cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/video.mpg
2. scp to windows box
3. view with powerdvd

So this shows the card and driver are working anyway.

I went through the black screen page on the wiki, but even though I have a "tveeprom 2-0050: tuner model is TCL M2523_5N_E (idx 112, type 50)", it seems to be detected ok (I don't get tuner type 4). In R5D1 I did have to manually select the tuner type.

Playing back previously recorded shows works as expected, so its strictly a capture issue.

Yes, it is this one! You know you read this stuff over and over and it doesn't click sometimes. I record using 702x480 so I didn't think this pertained to me, but since I tested with the LiveTV profile (which I never otherwise use) it bit me.

3) There is a known IVTV issue with some PVR-150 and PVR-500 cards using the default 480x480 recording profile and VBI encoding. See the postings by ethernut here - http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13097 Switching to a 720x480 resolutiuon will cure it, but don't forget to adjust your recording bit rates to match.

Thanks everyone for all of the help over the last 24 hours, I do appreciate it!
