Post subject:  Recording from cable/satellite with 2 tuners

Hi,

Could someone help me just to clarify the situation..
I currently have sky+ (satellite in the UK), which I'm planning to ditch.
With it, I can record one subscription-based channel, while simultaneously watching a second.

With my old VCR, I could set it up so that it records what is showing on the satellite, but I can't then change the satellite onto a different channel, since I can only record what I'm watching. Of course, I could always switch the TV over to pick up a different analogue signal, but that's the only way I could watch one while recording another. With a VCR, I can't record two subscription-based channels.

So, my question is..
With MythTV, if my setup contains a tv card with 2 tuners (or 2 tv cards), then am I right to think that I can record from my cabel/satellite in a similar manner to the way my VCR worked - i.e. I cannot record one and watch another subscription channel?

Yes, you can think of your satellite/cable STB as a single tuner. Though if you have, say both a cable STB and satellite STB, you could use a dual input or two cards to record/view both sources.
If you are not concerned about subscription channels, you can get DVB-S cards that get the direct signal from the dish. There should be some way doing decodes if you have a valid Sky card, unfortunately SKY's CAM is not available to 3rd parties, supposedly.
