Post subject: | R5E50 Frontend Shutdown Question |
I have one question about R5e50 that has me scratching my head. On my frontend only machine everything works except the "Exit and Shutdown" command. Whereas the machine would promptly shutdown with R5D1 it now only exits to fluxbox. I have searched to no avail for an answer to this issue without success. I am assuming that it is related to the removal of GDM? ![]() Other than this everything seems to be working great on the backend and the two frontends. This is a great release! Many Thanks! ![]() |

Hello, I don't know about R5e50, but in R5D1 (running on my system, I hope to upgrade soon ![]() What's there on your system grg3? Does this command work in a xterm window or what does it say? edit: The xml files corresponding to the menus are in \usr\share\mythtv. In these files you can see which command is used to 'exit and shutdown'. On R5D1 the file is knoppmyth.xml. Open it and search for the exact menu text. Axxel |

mamo74, Thanks for the confirmation. It is always nice to know that I am not the only one having this issue. Axxel, Thanks for the info. I have sudo halt in the general settings of r5e50 as well and the knoppmyth.xml has the same thing. The sudo halt will work from xterm. However, it apparently does not work from the menu. I will have to play with to see if I can make it work from the menu. |

When you do a sudo halt from an Xterm are you as root or the mythtv user? |

I think it has something to do with the switch from gdm to Xorg as window manager (and that's not my expertise ... yet. ![]() tscholl, isn't it mythtv per default? |

You are doing it as the mythtv user but using special security privleges of root. You should be prompted to use the root password after the command is entered. |

Sudo halt works from xterm and not the menu. The xterm is run as mythtv. It seems to me that the key point is the sudo command works from xterm and not the menu. Maybe it is a permission thing? |

Sudo halt DON'T works from xterm for me. I've try xterm running as mythtv and "sudo halt" but i've the same problem. I've try xterm running as root and "halt" or "shutdown -h now" or "init 0" but i've the same problem. after the command i've a black screen, keybord led are off but my pc isn't it. i can only push the star-stop button for a complete shutdown. The same using mythtv menu Reboot will work fine Any problem with R5D1 ![]() |

I think this is an other problem, mamo74. Your box shuts down but doesn't turn off, this is probably power management or BIOS problem (this also sometimes happens under (ahum)windows(ahum) ![]() This means it isn't a R5e50 specific problem. Not that it is any use to you, grg3. |

User error! I just had some time to play with this some more and discovered that the shutdown command in the general setup for the frontend was not sudo halt. Once I changed it to sudo halt, it halted! ![]() The Knoppmyth menu does not come into play here because I have set the frontend to use the dvr menus. The dvr menu does not have the option for live tv and removes the Knoppmyth menu as well. I just needed the sudo halt in the general settings. I must have looked at the setting on the other frontend and assumed they were the same. That's what I get for assuming ![]() |
