Server side support for network booting and running a Myth FrontEnd on the Hauppauge MediaMVP box. Not sure if we can have this ready for r5, but I'd be willing to get the discussion going.

This is a VERY interesting device. Has anyone managed to get mythtv frontend on one yet? Since it runs on linux I suppose the hardware mpeg2 decoder is supported under linux, but are the drivers available publicly or are they only supplied with the device in the built in linux? I'll deffinately be watching this one.

It is a matter of the frontend being about to run on the MediaMVP. Is the frontend is capable of running on the MVP?! Links please.

One mention of potential big-endian, little-endian issues with some embedded platforms but given that it play "normal" MPEG files, not sure this is an issue. . . . I'll feed it a PVR250.nuv file and see what happens.

Xsecrets - yes, in the end it may come down to not having source and documentation for the the hardware decoder. There is a mpgdec binary distributed with the the MVP which appears to handle the chores. Perhaps a the frontend would need to run as an overlay on top of mpgdec output.

It would be nice if the normal Myth Front End would cross-compile to the new platform with some patching for the hardware decoding. But another solution may be necessary/possible.

The strucure of Myth makes it fairly easy to write an interface. See MythWeb . . . the trickier part is controlling the replay once the streaming is started. The available protocols for the decoder binary should be easy enough to break down if necessary.

I wonder if you know of a guide or how to on how to get it running using a linksys router with dhcp rather than setting dhcp on the masterbackend.

The tftp server on the backend isnt a big deal.

I would just really rather let my routers do dhcp. I have had problems where the backend locksup and loses network availablility. I can't have my network crashing because of my knoppmyth box.

If I remember right, the tricky part is you need to setup dhcp such that it tells the mvpmc which ip it should boot from. In your case, that ip is different from the dhcp device, and I dunno if the linksys config allows the settings required for this.

I have been up on the wiki and I saw the link to what is available based on the platform. However it does not really have a link to a step by step process to use the alternate method.

You are right about how it requests the IP. I may have to upgrade the firmware to dd-wrt to get that kind of functionality. The wrt54gl is basically a linux router anyway. Although I would think it would be pretty straightforward to just serve up the ip address based on mac address.
