Post subject: | myth videos -- where to store, what to do? |
I'd like to try playing videos (avi, mpeg, etc) but cannot figure out for the life of me where to put them so that "watch videos" can even SEE them. Using R5D1. One box has both frontend and backend. I put an "avi" file in /myth/video but mythtv insists there are no files found when I want to "watch videos". Questions: 1. WHERE DO I PUT THE VIDEO FILES? 2. WHAT TYPES WORK? (AVI, MPEG, MOV, WMV, etc.) Extra Credit: If I have a slave box (runs frontend, no mysql, no TV cards), will it "watch videos" stored on the "Master" box, or does it need the files to exist locally (either on a local disk drive, or on an NFS mount) ? Thanks, Bill in New Jersey |

files found when I want to "watch videos". You have to go into Utilities/Setup>Video Manager and that will scan/index videos stored in /myth/video. There is a setting "Video Browser browses files" that won't require the scan from Video Manager. |

As spalVl mentioned, in Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Videos Settings -> General Settings you will find pertinent settings for your videos. I don't know if the internal player requires an extension on the file to determine it's type, but does your AVI filename have the .avi extension? |

Thanks, that was a big help. I should think the default is that mythvideo should scan for videos instead of requiring a manual scan. Mythmusic scans automatically. When I tried to set "Video Browser browses files", I find that I cannot -- when I move the highlight to that item, either space key or enter key just takes me to the next screen, and I cannot check this box. Any idea why? A manual scan did turn up the video I put in there, so I know that works. I assume that a slave (frontend only) must have a "local" video file to be able to see/play it -- either via local disk or NFS mount, Correct ? Thanks, Bill |

Any idea why? Your right/left arrow keys will check/uncheck the selection boxes. wfdudley wrote: I assume that a slave (frontend only) must have a "local" video

I was able to get .avi and .mpg to work. Poor results with .wmv (audio only). Anybody can comment on .mov? |
