Hi all,

I am having problems with blasting ir commands to a DCT2000 cable box. :oops:

I have installed lirc0.7.0pre2 as per the instructions at http://members.cox.net/rwraithr/IRBlaster_Howto.txt As I understand it receive and send will not share the same driver... Receive works fine but sending ir commands out using Com2 doesn't work. :?

When i try the command:
'(remote_)irsend SEND_ONCE DCT2000 1', it returns:
"Could not connect to socket"
"Connection refused..."

I've searched, event googled for the error, as yet I am no closer to sortings this out. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
M

the most common cause of this is that you did not create the /dev/remote device properly. first off, enable logging when you start /usr/local/sbin/remoted, e.g. add "-L /tmp/remoted.log" to that command. this will tell you 99% of what you need to know. second, run this command and post the output along with the contents of the aformentioned log file:
$ ls -sl /dev/remote*

see also my comments/scripts in the midst of this thread:

I started remoted using the '-L /tmp/remoted.log' option.

The log has the following entry:
--------------------
remoted(act200l) ready
accepted new client on /dev/remote
default_init(): No such device
caught signal
--------------------

also the command 'ls -l /dev/remote*' confirms that I have both the /dev/remote and /dev/remoted devices, i.e.:

crw-r- -r- - 1 root 72, 0 May 3 18:56 /dev/remote
srw-rw-rw- 1 root 0 May 5 12:56 /dev/remoted

Please note that I did not create the /dev/remote myself. It was, I think, created by default...

I followed the instructions in the thread http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1351 and I now have a working IR blaster! :D

It seems that the instructions/scripts at http://members.cox.net/rwraithr/IRBlaster_Howto.txt DO NOT WORK, well at least for me :wink:

Thanks to Jim 8) for the tips.
