Post subject:  Xorg and laptop display

I installed R5E50 on a Toshiba Satelite laptop last week. I had R5D1 running well on it. I output to a TV through an Averkey 3 VGA to TV adapter. The video card is a Trident Cyber ALADDiN-T.

With R5D1, I had the XFConfig4 setup to output 800x600 and was able to make this work on the TV nicely.

I ran the setup with nothing connected to the CRT port on the laptop. At first it did not find the correct driver but I manually changed the xorg.conf to use the Trident driver and X came up.

My problem now is the resolution. When X first starts it comes up with a screen that fills about 80% of the LCD display (I am guessing 800x600) but right before Myth starts, it drops to 640x480. I have a copy of my old XFConfig file and have tried copying the modelines but it still drops to 640x480. Can anyone suggest where to start debugging this thing?

Thanks

Look at the X log file - "/var/log/Xorg.0.log". It's really quite chatty with lots of detailed information about what it's doing and why. You can ignore most of the PCI and hardware address/port ranges stuff and look for anything about "mode" or "modes".
