I use a Dell Optiplex GX260 as a combined R5D1 FE/BE machine, with onboard intel graphics linked via VGA to an LCD TV. Input is from 2 Digital tuner cards.

I'm having trouble getting the intel graphics (845G) onboard card to output any modeline that does not exist in the VBIOS table.

I have read in the forum that DDC is used to check available modelines that can be used against the BIOS table. On starting X, messages in the X log indicate

(not using mode 1024x768_50 no mode of that name) despite the modeline
(using built in mode 1024x768) etc. The exact message I shall drop in here when I get access to my mythtv machine (not on the network at the moment).

So my chipset defaults to the first matching BIOS table modeline matching the requested resolution (usually 1024x768, but uses the inbuilt parameters of the BIOS table and sets the refresh rate the highest available for my TV/Monitor 85Hz).

I'm trying to get a 50Hz modeline to work, and although I can generate the modeline, it never gets accepted by the i810 driver because of this table issue in the BIOS.

I've been told that turning off DDC allows entry of custom modelines, but I've commented out the module "ddc" and from the log file there are still DDC log line entries and the behaviour hasn't changed.

Can anyone post a complete XF86FreeConfig-4 that is setup to successfully tell an intel chipset to run a modeline at 50Hz? I can always fiddle the modeline later. The default config file has plenty of modelines, just that the driver won't accept any of them as they are not in the BIOS table.

So far all I can set it to is
1024x768 @ 85Hz
800x600 @ 85Hz
640x480 @ 85Hz

Changing the monitor vertrefresh range from 50-85 down to 50-60 sets all the modes to 60Hz, but changing the vertrefresh range to 50-50 results in X not starting, so that's not an option.

I don't need another video card, but it might come to that if I can't sort this issue out.

Cheers for any assistance.
Don't see much point in posting my config file but am happy to do so if someone wants to see it. Only difference from standard is that I commented out the "glx" module because R5D1 was trying to render to a GL surface despite the hardware not supporting it (result, very jerky TV).
