Post subject:  Video Bad only after Recording Mode starts

I just built a new MythBox to replace an aging one, and reused the working PVR-150 from the old machine. I have a rather strange error in the recordings, that's driving me crazy. Forgive me if this has been covered, but I didn't see it. I did a new KnoppMyth install today, and set everything up as I had done in the past, nothing fancy.

The video, whether in LiveTV or Recorded modes is strangely garbled. Not completely, and the audio is fine. It's like sections of the screen don't refresh to the new image, and stay stuck on the old picture. This is a problem with recording, since I viewed the files through MythWeb, and they looked the same. So it's not playback.

The funny thing is, when I first boot the machine, I can do "cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg" and the video looks great. Then I start a recording, and it's garbled. If I stop that recording and cat /dev/video0 again, the test.mpg IS garbled. I'm guessing when Myth switches to recording mode, it makes a setting on the PVR that doesn't get changed back when it stops.

The recording profiles under my mpg encoder card seem to be OK, per online recommendations. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

If it appears, try the workarounds provided.

Also see this thread and try changing your recording profile to as described.

Turning off VBI capturing seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks so much for the quick help! I think I'll double my KnoppMyth donation this year.
