Post subject:  Mythbackup never completes

In my R5E50 upgrade preparations, I'm trying to run mythbackup. It appears that it's actually trying to bz2-zip my entire mounted file server with 700GB worth of movies, music, photos, iso images and what not. I've only let it run for a couple days, but I do get the feeling that it's not going to complete and that something is not what it's intended to be.

Should I unmount external directories first? Doing so results in "file lists are not identical" and "table lists are not identical" error messages.

Oh BTW, should "mythbackup" be ran as root or mythtv? The latter results in a few permissions errors, but the first doesn't make it either.

Thanx
/Chris

Another thread dealing with seemingly the same thing: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14152
This should help...

Oh my... Yeah, that would cause major problems. Start here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10117 The head posting contains the core info, but see the rest of the thread for updates.

I definitely recommend unmounting any large volumes that are under /etc, /root or /home before running the backup. There are actually warnings about things which can bloat the backup in the announcement above, but they could probably stand to be made stronger.

You may want to add either --exclude options for the mount points or the --one-file-system option.to the tar command in mythbackup.

Finally, the backup should always be run as root. The FE (which is running as mythtv) uses sudo to do this.
