I recently installed (auto install) Knoppmyth 5E50. That went pretty well.

Then I got a serial remote (the packard_bell).
The lirc-reconfig.sh script has a selection for it, but it has no function in the script for that remote, so it just quits.
The script does have a configuration for rca-6n1 which uses the same driver. After that, i just copied over the /etc/lirc/lircd.conf file with the proper configuration file.

That leaves the /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc file.
There is also a link in /home/mythtv/.lircrc to the lircrc file (is that necessary?)

Here is the part I am having trouble with:
The remote seems to work fine with Mythtv and mplayer, but not Xine.
And when in playing in xine, the mythtv keypresses get passed through, so in the example lircrc below -- pressing the enter button causes an enter, not a pause. And even buttons mapped only to Xine don't get passed through to xine at all, e.g. the One button seem to do nothing.

And here is a big clue (but I don't know what to make of it!) -- if I exit the myth frontend and run xine from an xterm, the xine buttons work as expected!

Code:
begin
   prog = mythtv
   button = Enter
   config = Enter
end
begin
   prog = mplayer
   button = Enter
   config = pause
end
begin
   prog = xine
   button = Enter
   config = Pause
end
begin
   prog = xine
   button = One
   config = Pause
end

Can anybody tell me if this is the way lircrc works in Mythtv/xine?

i.e. is it correct that only the mythtv bindings from lircrc matter when playing video or TV (with xine)?

and, if that is the case -- how is it that mplayer bindings do get used for mplayer (e.g. playing an .avi video apparently launches mplayer)?

It might be worthwhile creating a link in /home/mythtv to /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc .
Perhaps I'm being a bit thick here, but why are using Enter to pause, rather than the pause key? :)
Make sure that it is xine that is being used for the file being played, I noticed, if I used .mpg files for video, it appears the mythtv player is used. I noticed this as the standard mythtv OSD was used when fast forwarding.
If so, then you are seeing the correct behaviour as you have set the Enter key to generate the Enter key press for mythtv.

HI bruce,
ahhh, maybe I am confused about which player is what.
How do I recognize xine?
When I play .avi videos, i recognize it as mplayer.
And then, is there yet another video player? (the "Mythtv player"?)

Where is the definition of which player does what?

p.s. it turns out there is no button labeled "pause" on this remote -- strange as that may seem!

See this thread. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... light=xine

If you go to the menu location given (Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> DVD Settings -> Play Settings -> Page 1) and it's blank, then you're using the builtin player. If you're useing xine it should contain one of the commands described in that thread.
