Post subject:  NFS share problems

Hey all,

I have KM R5E50, and I'm having some problems with an NFS share I mount in /myth/video so that Myth can access some media stored on a remote server.

I'm able to mount the NFS volume and access the files, but if I try to play a file using mplayer or vlc (doesn't matter which), after something like 30 seconds the playback freezes and the player hangs, ignoring kill signals and such.

After getting the player to die, if I were to go to the directory in a shell and type ls, it hangs indefinitely because the NFS connection is seems to be disrupted. I have to reboot the machine for it to work again. (unmounting and remounting doesn't work)

Has anyone dealt with this problem before? I know that it's not a problem with the hardware because it works in other distributions (like Ubuntu).

Thanks,
RJ

I had something like this happen when I was messing with different MTU sizes with a "broken" switch. When the MTU size was non-standard what you're describing happened. This was due to the switch as I said though... what mtu size are you using curiously?

What are the permissions for /myth ? Do these same permissions carry on to /myth/video as well?

I am also going to assume that this is from a remote frontend you are trying to access from. The folder /myth must also exist on the frontend so NFS may import it from fstab. The permissions on /myth on the frontend should also match those of the backend.

For example, my /myth folder on both the remote frontend and master backend are set to a+rwx, thus everything in /myth has the same permissions right down to, yup, you guessed it, /myth/video.

I hope this helps out some.

Good luck!
