Post subject:  Where does mythtv-setup look for Mysql info? *UPDATE*

I've changed the IP on my knoppmyth server box to a static IP from a dynamic IP. Now mythtv-setup, mythbackend, and mythfilldatabase (and I'm sure others) seem to be looking at the old IP for a mysql server.

This is causing big problems. I thought I'd be able to fix it in mythtv-setup, but that program will not start correctly, as it is still looking at the old address for the mysql data it needs.

*UPDATE*

This seems to only be a problem when I am logged into the box as root. The user 'mythtv' seems to have the settings correct. I looked for /home/root/.mythtv/mysql.txt, but /home/root does not exist. Where would this information be for root?

Hint, hint. Sounds like mysql may not be running for whatever reason...

Mysql is running, but when mythtv-setup and the other programs are looking for it at the old IP address, they don't know that.

Try looking in

/home/mythtv/.mythtv/mysql.txt

I changed my IP for SCALE last weekend and all I had to do was change the IP under General in mythtv-setup and restart the backend. From my experience, if something won't communicate w/ MySQL it is because MySQL isn't running. You may also want to check /usr/share/mythtv/mysql.txt.

Checked all of that, no go. I repeat, this only happens when logged in as root.

Then, why are you running as root?! It is never a good idea to run something as root that doesn't need to run as root.
