Hello,

I'm putting together a system based on the excellent advice I have read in this forum. The system is to replace my ancient TiVo which I've had for about 6 years, it works fine but I want a more integrated media centre.

My question is how easy will it be to add a second hard drive in the future. I'm starting off with one SeaGate 750Gb but plan to add another when I can afford it. Will I be able to do this?

I will post my proposed system spec when I have finalised it.

Many thanks

750G is a lot of hours of TV and should last for some time but when the need arises adding a new drive is quite easily done with help from the excellent wiki, especially:
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... driveHowTo
and,
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LvmHowTo

Many thanks!

I hadn't come across the Wiki before but it looks like a great resource.

I would recommend setting up your /myth partition as an LVM volume from the first real install and being sure to use a filesystem which can be extended like ext3 or jfs. That way if you add another drive later it'll simply be a matter of extending the volume group and the filesystem.
