system:
p4 1.7ghz
512mb ram
pvr-350 output onto tv
older maxtor IDE hard drive

I tried playing back some xvid files through mythtv, and the audio was slowly getting out of sync, to the point where after 10 minutes it was unwatchable. I added -framedrop to my mplayer load string as per some threads here, and it got better, but was still slightly noticeable after an hour of playing.

I did not have a chance to check top, but is it just way too intense to play video on this PC without going out of sync? the files play fine in vlc player on my windows machine (slower specs)

What could I try to remedy this problem?
