The problem is really strange.

All the basic installation steps were OK. I restored the previous configuration from the backup successfully, I applied a few modifications as explained in various posts here. But the most important problem is still annoying me.

When I watch TV (or record TV), I receive numerous errors (log on console) about various MPEG errors/corrupted files. Sounds like the stream is corrupted because of a lossy signal quality. The video is crappy and sound is scattered.

The tuner card (DVB-T) is plugged to my aerial and is operating very well. My DVB-T TV set is reporting a 75/80% signal level but no informations about SNR. The fact is that the television is perfectly decoding and displaying DVB-T streams. The 2 sitted DVB-T cards in my computer are also receiving a good enought RF-signal to decode the datas (SNR 4,7 dB). When I use VLC to open the DVB-T stream form my current installation, the stream is perfectly decoded without any error.

I can't understand why my computer can receive and display video signal perfectly with VLC and can't do the same with MythTV...

Heellllpp...
:-)

Are you sure you are tuned into the correct muxes (transports) for your area? If you have multiple available transmitters it's possible you are using the more marginal one.
Some STBs are very good are sorting the appropriate channels, some are useless, so when doing a channel scan it's the first one detected that will be used rather than the one with the strongest signal.
There should be a website showing what transmitters are available for your area.

I used the same config (from channels.conf) tunning to various multiplex. All tests were the same : tuned with MythTV, scattered video and numerous errors, tuned with VLC, perfect video, no errors.

I think the problem is out of there. In other words the low (supposed) signal is not the real problem. I've installed on another harddisk an ubuntu, installed a basic Mythtv config (apt-get) then it works with this equipment and config.

I rebooted with the Knoppmyth install and get once again the same trouble : no TV reception.

What could be the reason why the mythtv can't capture properly on the Knoppmyth installation that VLC can ?

I would like to continue using the Knoppmyht for the fabulous work of an auto-install of all needed parts (nivida tv out, lircd, xmltv, ...). This saves pain of a difficult install. But actually it doesn't work here.

help

What DVB-T card are you using and what version of Ubuntu did you try and what kernel is it using (uname -a )?
I assume the version of KM you are using is R5E50?

I have excatly the same behaviour with SkyStar DVB-S cards. I compare the signal to kaffeine....

Why can this be ?
