I have a KnoppMyth frontend/backend unit that is working great -- thanks guys, wonderful software. I can communicate with this box using a Knoppmyth frontend. When I try to use a frontend packaged in another distro (says it is .20) I get a connection error saying something about a version 30 process (Mandriva 2007) cannot communicate with a version 31 process (R E50). Is there any way around this problem?

No. You need the protocol versions to match. That's why they have versioning in the first place.

The mythtv versioning is issue is a Mythtv limitation and not a Knoppmyth one.

One of the bugfixes for 0.20 required a change in the communication protocol so the protocol version was bumped from 30 to 31. Knoppmyth must be using a more up to date version.
