I just installed R5E50 on an Asus M2NPV-VM w/ A64 X2 3800+ and 512M RAM.

I installed to a local HDD from the CDROM, everything went fine. I can connect to my backend server (Ubuntu using the binary packages they provide). I can start a playback, but it doesn't ever switch to actually playing it back. It tries to, the screen flickers, but it never really does it. The preview window does work, so I know it can see the file at some level. Any hints? I love the idea of being able to use Knoppmyth for my frontends as it's so much eaiser to install.

Oh, is anyone using a CF card to hold Knoppmyth? I'd like to do that if it will work. How big does it need to be?

This wiki entry may help. As you are using a separate frontend perhaps this wiki entry is useful.

Those links were very helpfull, thanks!

I've got it running pretty well now. I finally have HD playback working decently. The A64 3000+ just couldn't quite do it. Note that I'm not using XVMC as I never could quite get it to work properly.

Oddly, the onboard sound was not detected. No big deal as I wanted to use a Turttle Beach card I allready had as it has optical SPDIF that I can actually make work. I never could get the Nvidia chipset sound to work with SPDIF. Just a note in case others run into it.

One thing I like about Knoppmyth, it's able to keep my CPU fan speed way down. It's not in a case right now, which I'm sure helps, but it actually turns the fan off for short periods when the system is idle.
