On bootup, one of the first messages displayed tells me my BIOS is too old, and that I have to set acpi=force somewhere. Searched the forum, but no luck. Does anyone know where to enter this setting?

In the append line of your /etc/lilo.conf file. If you do this, you will need to run lilo to set itself up with the new boot parameter.
When initially booting up off the CD, you can add that to the boot prompt line (where it says boot). If you are installing R5E50, apparently it's clever enough if you add items at the initial boot prompt, it will write them to the lilo.conf file and install them.
