1(a). Can I use knoppmyth to surf the web with a browser and view different sites and download things? I havent setup my knoppmyth box but I was told you can do this but I wanted to confirm. For example if I was to turn on my knoppmyth box, would I be greeted with this screen?
1(b). If so, how would you break out of it in order to surf the web? How do you switch back and forth?
2. Also say I wanted to do things via command line, how would I break out of the mythtv section to get to a prompt?
3. Say I wanted to add some emulators like Genesis and SNES, how would I go about this? I am confused about the whole mythtv part....If I wanted to add something do I break out of the mythtv menu screen? If I was to add a emulator would it automatically come on the mythtv menu?
Thanks

1: You can yes, but you'll need a keyboard/mouse. Under "Information Center" there's an option "Web" that starts upt he browser.. Close the browser and you're back to MythTV.
2: In KnoppMyth, ALT-X will open a terminal. You can always juts hit escape at the main menu and shut down the frontend, if you need to as well.
3: Look at the MythGame plugin. (Part of knoppMyth by default). It'll let you access your emulators & ROMS via the Media Library.

Oh, and the most obvious.. Yes, if you use KnoppMyth & set it up as a Frontend, then (after the boot sequence) you'll find yourself staring at the main menu.

Thanks Yeraze
1. Can I exit out the blue menu screen and go to a desktop? Can I switch back and forth? Say I wanted to download something via torrent and then switch back to the blue menu so I can watch a movie
2. Ive seen the screenshot of the cd/dvd rip screen, once you are ripping a cd/dvd do you have to wait for it to finish or can you watch media and do stuff while its ripping?
3. On installation, based off your last post, are you saying there is an option somewhere to make mythtv as a front end or not? and does this mean if you boot up the box it will go straight to mythtv versus a desktop?
4. Do you have to use a remote to navigate the menus? Or can you use a keyboard or mouse or gamepad?

well... the easy answer to all your questions is... yes.
mythtv has 2 components: the backend, the database that runs all of you tv recording and keeps track of all your media, and the frontend, the interface for you to access your media/programs/etc. the backend runs all the time behind the scenes. pretty much anytime you want, you can exit out of the frontend and get to an x window desktop (stopping the frontend won't stop any backend processes). knoppmyth comes with fluxbox, however you can install any other windows manager (kde, etc) over that and run it like any linux box.
mythtv is simply a program that runs on linux (specifically debian for knoppmyth). anything you can do with debian, you can do with knoppmyth. the mythtv frontend is nearly infinitely customizable. you can run any program with it (as simple firefox or as complex as a video transcoder).
so, download and install the basic distribution, search the wiki and bboard if you want to add or take away anything and hack away. it'll take a while, but you can get almost anything that you want.

I've found the Myth browser to be limiting and slow. Armed with a wireless keyboard, I use FireFox instead.
I've bound it to the Alt+W key, so I can pop it up any time.

How would I do that? I have firefox installed already, but how would I do the key bound part so that if I do alt-W it FF will come up?
