Post subject: | newbie samba question |
I followed the directions for setting up samba to initiate on start up. It worked great but today when I tried to copy files over I couldn’t connect so I tried to use putty to restart samba and it won’t recognize samba as a command. I used apt-get to re-download samba and it still won’t run samba. Any clue’s on what I’m doing wrong? |

Code: /etc/init.d/samba start

That is the command I entered but when I try it says samba is not a recognized command. I have gone to the directory and verified that the file is there but for some reason it isn't executable. |

To get it to always run on startup you need to enter the following as root: Code: update-rc.d samba defaults
BTW, stuff like this can usually be found on the wiki: http://www.knoppmywthwiki.org |

Thank you very much for the replies. I did follow the directions on http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=UsingSambaHowTo. I had it setup and working great. After a few reboots i could no longer connect and went to restart samba. That is when i noticed that it wouldn't execute. I was root when I tried to restart samba and it still gave me an error. Today when I tried restarting again it locked up on startup. I think my problems may be related to this thread. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... nge+issues (not the being hacked part) One person mentioned about files not executing properly and when he restarted it locked up. I have had problems before with my box not booting after being shutdown a few times and have just reloaded my box. I'm not sure if this is related or not I'm just trying to get to a stable point. Thank you again for your help. |
