I made a thread in this section because I thought it would be appropriate, but it's up to the mods to move it if they consider it belongs somewhere else, of course. Before I continue, please take into account that I just started playing around with Linux. With that in mind.... I finally jumped on the MythTV bandwagon! Pretty much everything works out of the box with R5E50, but I'm having a few problems. Although I've already searched the forums for solutions, I haven't found what I'm looking for. Here's what I've done so far using the instructions from the KnoppMythWiki: - Turned on DMA on both of my optical drives (DVD-ROM and CD burner) - Enabled Samba--the backend won't appear in My Network Places; I have to add it manually - Switched to stable repositories--geole.info gave me problems What doesn't work: - DVD playback--even after installing libdvdcss2, xine-ui will lock up on me - I can't quit VLC once I've started playing a video (XviD) - My D-Link DSM-520 can see and browse the server, but the music I transfered from my Windows box won't show up even after telling MythTV to scan the folder for new MP3s. Also, only the recordings folder is available--how do I make the video folder available? - I have a /dev/cdrom and a /dev/cdrom1, but no /dev/dvd--what are /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd? Those are my gripes. Help is greatly appreciated! ![]() Finally, here are my system specs: Biostar M7NCD motherboard (nForce2 400) AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1GB RAM 160GB HDD LG DVD-ROM LG CD burner GeForce4 MX 4000 MSI TV@nywhere Master EDIT: Shoot! I forgot to mention that MythWeather is not working either, but I know that's because the website the plug-in retrieves the info from changed the URL. |

Quote: Enabled Samba--the backend won't appear in My Network Places; I have to add it manually Have you changed the workgroup line in /etc/samba/smb.conf, IIRC unless this matches the workgroup of your other PCs, this wouldn't normally be available for browsing.Quote: DVD playback--even after installing pineapple, xine-ui will lock up on me Are you seeing any error messages about reading the disk on the console screen? There apparently is a an upgrade available for xine that supposedly fixes other problems, this may also cure your lockup problems (though not if you have problems reading the disk ![]() Quote: My D-Link DSM-520 can see and browse the server, but the music I transfered from my Windows box won't show up even after telling MythTV to scan the folder for new MP3s. Can MythMusic see and play these files as well?

I changed the workgroup. We'll see what happens when I restart the PC.... EDIT: I deleted the share from Windows and restarted both PCs. It still doesn't appear. Could it be related to Windows XP Home not being able to join a domain (whatever that means)? When I open xine-ui, I get a splash screen which gets stuck, the program's window, and the controls. Nothing works, though. The only way to close the program is to kill the process. MythMusic sees and plays the files fine, but the DSM-520 can't. simonflood, is this what you mean? ![]() |

Also, Myth prefers one optical device, (unless I've missed an upgrade somewhere). Remove all but your dvd burner and you should be in business. |

I don't have a DVD burner, only a DVD-ROM drive and a CD burner. Apparently, they refer to the right devices (/dev/dvd refers to /dev/hdc and /dev/cdrw to /dev/hdd). As for DVDs not playing, I solved that problem by changing the playback command to 'internal,' as suggested here. <=== Should be stickied! ![]() I'll keep posting as I solve my problems.... |

A newbie from Springfield, Il. I have family in Springfield. Well newbie, one of the things I don't like are post asking for help with more than one problem. I don't believe helps anyone particularly newbies. I believe in keeping things simply, one problem per post. I also believe in searching the forum for help and warming old posts if your problem matches other issues. |

Gotcha! Lock or delete this thread if you must, and I'll make separate threads for each one of my "problems." It wasn't my intention to confuse anybody. ![]() |
