Post subject:  Anyone update to IVTV driver 0.10.1
I hope this hasn't been discussed already. I tried searching and for whatever reason, the local search function and google site search couldn't find any info on 0.10.0 which I know has been discussed, or 0.10.1.

Has anyone tried to upgrade to 0.10.1 and how did it go?

I am thinking of trying it, to see if the issue with PVR-150s not being able to capture at 480x480 has been resolved. I would like to create some sVCDs. Apparently they are very specific about requiring 480x480 video and 44100 hz audio sampling. I haven't found anything I can figure out how to use that can pull down the resolution from the current required 720x480.

I'm running R5E50, which I think is the 2.6.18 Linux kernel and comes with IVTV 0.10.0. If this is true, it is also the minimum spec for 0.10.1.

I thought in the past I read some had tried to update to the newest compatible IVTV driver for their Linux kernel, but it didn't agree with their MythTV version. If this is unlikely to be true, it would be good to know.

I wrote the directions and know that they and the driver work with R5E50.

I upgraded to 0.10.0, and subsequently 0.10.1 following the directions in the wiki.

No issues for me, and it reduced the IOBOUND errors I was getting in the previous versions.

I haven't tried changing resolutions (I'm using 720x480), so I can't speak for any improvements in that regard. Overall, though, I recommend the upgrade, and I'm pleased with the picture quality I'm currently getting out of my two 150's.

Post subject:  is ivtv only for the standard definition pvr cards?
Is ivtv only for the standard definition pvr cards (pvr-150, pvr-250, pvr-350, etc)?

My system has only a pchdtv HD-3000 card. I wonder if my system is using the ivtv drivers at all? Would an upgrade improve/fix anything for me?

Yes, analog cards only. From the ivtv site ...

The IVTV project develops a kernel driver for Linux and a driver for X11 for hardware based on Conexant's CX23415/CX23416 codec chip such as the Hauppauge PVR 150/250/350/500 models and other supported hardware.

When I tried following the Wiki I got stuck on the 2nd item

ls: kernel-source*: No such file or directory


So I was wondering what was there to see if it was something I could figure out on my own, but I haven't been able to figure out what to do. #Locate kernel-source didn't find anything. Can anyone clue me in on where the kernel-source files are, or what I should do instead? Thanks.

Search the forums for a post by Cecil titled "So you want the kernel source" This is covered in the R5E50 hints posting.

I've been meaning to figure out how to do it with the supplied header files but the upcoming release will make that point moot...

Make sure you're following the steps for ivtv 0.10.x, and did you run these commands (described just before step 1)?

The post tjc describes gives a lot of information (make sure you read the whole post!!), but you should be able to just plow thru the steps in the wiki article and get ivtv updated

Actually I was the person who added those 2 lines of code to the Wiki article after finding the post tjc described. For anyone who wants this in the future, the post is http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ght=source

I successfully completed the Wiki article process and I didn't get any new error messages, so I guess I am running 0.10.1. Now I need to try switching the capture resolution back to 480x480 and see if it works.

Chugging through the wiki instructions blindly didn't work. I added to the wiki to state that since the file you downloaded was named something like "linux-source..." therefore those first commands for "ls" and "tar" should be for filename "linux-source..." instead of filename "kernel-source...".

P.S. I added it in the wiki as a "Note:" instead of just changing the original command text. If someone agrees with me, please edit it in.
