Hi

I've totally fscked up my myth tv system

How could I totally reset the mythtv config and reconfigure it from scratch ?

I tried to create a second backend and I don't know what happends, the system was not working anymore

I tried to reconfigure my master backend, remove the config files and so on

I had some troubles with XML, I tried to resintall the latest version (0.5.33)
(which version was installed with R4V2 ?)

My backend tells me actually when It starts : CheckChannel failed. Please verify channel "3" in the "setup" Channel Editor.

I'm on the point to reformat the system, but I would like to avoid that...

please help

Yhan

Well, if you ran mythbackup prior to attempting to add a slave backend, you can run mythrestore to restore the DB.

I had the same thing happen after adding a channel in manually. I just re-ran mythtv-setup and answered yes to wipe the channels. I then ran mythfilldatabase and it fixed the problem for me.

I already tried that, It didn't solve the problem. After doing that, I'was not able any more to run mythfilldatabase, I tried to upgrade xmltv because of that.

I'm beginning to be out of ideas... excepting for reinstalling everything... (what I' d like to avoid as much as possible)

If somebody has an (or several) ideas ...

Thanks in advance

I'm not trying to blame you, just stating a matter of fact. I'd suggest ignoring the SBE for the moment and workong the MBE. You didn't run mythfilldatabase on the SBE did you(you shouldn't)? What exactly doesn't work?

Well no I didn't ran mythfilldatabase on the SBE, after my tentative to configure the SBE (I ran mythtv-setup on the SBE), the MBE was not working properly anymore. I tried to restart the backend but w/o success..

I tried to flush the config and to recreate it, thus mythtv-setup on the MBE, and afterwrd tried to run mythtvfilldatabase... at this point I got that error message : zap2it page format looks okay, but no programs found (no available data yet ?)

Because of that I tried to upgrade XMLTV but the lateste version doesn't work very well with mythtv...

Up to now, what I could do is to restore /usr and /lib (I have a copy of both direcotries), I hope to revert the XMLTV with that operation.

What do you think ?

If you're in North America, the XMLTV grabber is broken. Posts in the forum already address how to fix this...

Hi

First of all thanks a lot for the previous answers.

Uo to now, I've found a Howto on the mythtv forum
http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-21.html#ss21.19

but to complete restore my mythtv installation, I've to repopulate my database with the channel info. According to the howto (http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-9.html#VideoSources)
that i've pasted in the post, I ve to choose in the videosource screen, DataDirect as grabber

<code>
CVS Only If you're in North America, change the grabber to "DataDirect", then continue pressing the down arrow to move to the next field. Fill in the username and password that you have established with DataDirect, then move to the "Retrieve Listings" button and press the space bar.
</code>

How could I change that ? do I need to recompile MythTV with a version from the cvs ?

Is that a way to bypass ?

All the posts (up to now) that I've found in the forum, the mini how to they post, are assuming that the channels are already set in the database. But if you have to reconfigure, or doing a fresh install it will not work

Any ideas ?

Thanks to all and long live to mythtv !!

Ok I've read the post but

if I'd like to fetch the providers lists and the channels from the mythtv-setup, it's not workong, because you can not enter the user/name password.

Btw I'm running R4v2, is that something different in the mythtv-setup from the R4V3 ?

In the MythTV formum, they say there is an option to choose the new grabber, but only avalaible for the CVS version ...

Please help

Thanks in advance

Since you are starting from scratch, it is probably best to use CVS due to the problem w/ zap2it. If you decide to use CVS, please report any issues you have to the MythTV mailing list.
