Last night I had to reboot my myth box (power outage.) The boot was delayed because linux decided to fsck on one of my volumes. I saw the following on screen while I was waiting for the fsck to finish... Code: Checking Multimedia video controller {
KnoppMyth found: 1) Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01) 2) Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01) FATAL: Error inserting cx88_dvb (/lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13/kernel/drivers/media/video/cx88/cx88-dvb.ko No such device } Done Please excuse typos, I was transcribing from my TV screen to my notebook. I have two PVR-150's that both seem to be working. I have no idea if this is a new error, or something I just havn't noticed because it normally goes off screen too fast. I tracked the message down to a line in /etc/init.d/KnoppMyth-tv that does a simple "modprobe cx88-dvb" There's no conditionals around the line, so I presume the module is deemed necessary, but I have almost no idea what it's supposed to do. Google gives me a number of references to other people who had problems loading the module, but nothing (IMO) helpful. Any thoughts? Thanks |

No need to worry. We force the load of the module because otherwise, folks with cards that need it wouldn't work. It is safe to ignore. If you want, you can remove: modprobe cx88-dvb from /etc/init.d/KnoppMyth-tv. |

Out of curiosity was you box hooked up to a UPS and if so, was it set up to power down gracefully? If no, a lot of times these problems could have been avoided with a properly configured UPS.

Cecil Thanks for the answer, double thanks for the speed. Mike, Funny you should ask... The power only went out for the smallest fraction of a second; just enough to knock-out the PC; most of my clocks even retained the time. We were in the middle of watching a show I had downloaded to MythVideo when the power went out. There were a couple of cuss words followed by; "That's it! we need a UPS for that thing." My wife replied, "Oh, how much do they cost?" The conversation went downhill from there, but I think I won the point. I understand APC's work well with linux. Any preferences? Joe |

I understand APC's work well with linux. Any preferences? They're relatively cheap. Watch the sale circulars from Circuit City and the office supply places and you can get a decent one for 2 or 3 yuppie food coupons (i.e $40-$60). Look for an APC one with the USB monitoring cable. |

I personally prefer APC. They're easy to set up. Just follow the APCUPSD instructions on the wiki. This does not mean other brands won't work under linux. Network UPS Tools (NUT) handles many different brands, but I've found it more difficult to get configured. |

I also see this error on my system, and have a PVR-500, but I also have an AirStar-HD5000AV-PCI card installed in the same system. Can I also safely ignore this error message? (I do not know if the Airstar is a cx88_dvb card or not) thanks, Kevin |
