Post subject:  Need help configuring knoppmyth box

Hello,
I currently have no tuners, and would just like to use knoppmyth to play back video and audio files, and archive cd's and dvd's. Once I can get it working, I may buy some tuners. I have had some issues setting it up.

First, I have a radeon 9250 in my computer. When I booted for the first time, it selected my integrated graphics. X would not boot because no screens were installed, so I connected the monitor to my integrated graphics. It then booted. How would I go about installing drivers and getting my TV out to work?

Second, I would like to use a wireless card. Knoppmyth recognizes the card, and I am able to install drivers with ndiswrapper, and it says the hardware is present. I did do modprobe ndiswrapper, and ndiswrapper -m, but wlan0 won't show up in iwconfig. Is it possible to get this wireless card to work?

Third, I have a music/video collection on one of my laptops running both Windows XP, and Ubuntu. I have not been able to transfer the files, even after following the wiki on how to enable samba. The only thing I can think of is that the workgroups are different. How would I get this working?

Thank you for your time,
Bobby

Hey Bobby,

1. I personally don't know about the ATI cards, but there is a driver and installer on the ATI website, http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon-prer200.html you could try that. Could I suggest you backup first though!

2. Sorry can't help there.

3. After ensuring that samba is running could I suggest that in XP you open My Computer goto Tools/Map Network Drive and in this dialog box you have the option of connecting as another user, use the mythtv details and you should be able to copy the stuff where it needs to go.

I finally gave up on the wireless card, and did get samba working. I did install the drivers, and now it won't boot. I don't have anything important on there anyway, so I'm going to reinstall.

Thanks,

Bobby

This might be a bit late in the day for you as you've given up on your wireless card, but what wireless card are you using? If it's atheros based, madwifi is an easier way of getting a wireless network up and running.

I'm using an encore that I got from Newegg cheap. I think it's based on the maxent chip.

I also just found out another thing, I downloaded version R5B7, when I should of downloaded R5F1. My mistake. Hopefully I can get the wireless card to work.
