I am NOT happy with R5F1. With all the previous releases I've had no problems getting my DCT-6200 video via firewire on my knoppmyth system. I had done an upgrade, and as always, upgrades do not work for me. Trust me, I don't have a lot of stuff, just DVD ISOs, and 1 mp3, a few pictures, and 2 tv shows. I still have my backup files though.... but I then decided to try a fresh install to make sure I could solve some problems.

The very first thing is "plugreport", which was reporting errors after the upgrade.

Next, with a fresh install it looks fine, but now after I set the firewire after using plugctl and after mythtv-setup, I can't tune into the video stream coming from the firewire. I've done this a hundred times and can do this in my sleep. I can't watch Live TV.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Antebios,

I used firewire for ~6 months but switched to using a PCI-connected digital tuner because of the number of times the firewire connection would flake out. Having said this, have you tried running "firewire_tester" to see if that will clear things up? If you are running on boradcast mode, which is the way I used to run, try this:
Code:
firewire_tester -B -n node# -P port# -v

Where "node#" and "port#" are your node and port numbes. If you are using a p2p connection run "firewire_tester --help" to figure out the right options to use.

Before your run this command make sure that the box is tuned to a channel you are certain is being transmitted in the clear AND does not have the copy inhibit flag set.

The general problem with firewire based recording is that anytime you attempt to record an encrypted channel or a show on a clear channel that has the copy-inhibit flag set, things are left in a state where all subsequent recording fail until things are reset.

marc, FREAKIN' GENIUS! I knew about this command, but I thought it was only for testing. Little did I know after reading in depth that it actually "PRIMES" it. I'm going to create a script that will execute until success for each tuner after the backend starts.

Glad that worked. One thing to be aware of: My experience is that if you run firewire_tester while the backend is active, you will get a massive number of error messages in the myth backend log file. When I tried this sometime back I got over 70,000 messages that read:

Code:
Firewire: Got out of sync TS Packet

Has anyone figured out how to incorporate a reset into the myth code itself? Its highly annoying to have to reset it manually all of the time. If its getting out of syncs it should try to reset every once in a while rather that just spit 1000s of error messages.

I have to say thank you for that firewire-tester command too. I've been having problems getting firewire going since I moved and got a new cable box, and that command fixed it right up for me too, so Thanks.
