Post subject: | Reinstalling KnoppMyth without losing LVM config |
Hi, I installed R5C7 (I think--I don't know how to find the currently running version, and I don't have the install CD handy.) I had everything just about tweaked out when a package install (iceweasel) went horribly wrong. I wasn't paying close enough attention and it nuked critical packages, like X-Windows, MySQL, bits of MythTV, etc. Not sure why, but it did. I've been tinkering around trying to get things re-installed, but I keep landing in dependency hell. I would back up my mythconverg database, /home/.mythtv and /etc and start fresh, but I spanned my /myth filesystem across two drives. I'm afraid that if I re-install over the top, I'll lose a fairly large amount of data, DVDs, etc. My question is: is there a way to re-install the Knoppmyth packages without killing the configs, databases, etc? Thanks, Rodd |

It's called "auto upgrade". Upgrading to the same version is the recommended method for undoing many types of damage. You can even move forward to the latest version. See the upgrade and install hints that tjc posts for detailed instructions. It even tells you how to tell what version you are running. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15195 |

Thanks for the reply. That's one heck of an article. However, I can't get past step 0, though, because I can't start mysqld. I've searched high and low, and can't seem to find the root of my problem. Here's what I get when I attempt to start it from '/etc/init.d/mysql start': Jun 12 22:11:53 flange mysqld_safe[6220]: started Jun 12 22:11:53 flange mysqld[6223]: 070612 22:11:53 /usr/sbin/mysqld: unknown variable 'expire_logs_days=10' Jun 12 22:11:53 flange mysqld[6223]: Jun 12 22:11:53 flange mysqld_safe[6225]: ended Jun 12 22:11:59 flange /etc/init.d/mysql[6267]: 0 processes alive and '/usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping' resulted in Jun 12 22:11:59 flange /etc/init.d/mysql[6267]: ^G/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed Jun 12 22:11:59 flange /etc/init.d/mysql[6267]: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)' Jun 12 22:11:59 flange /etc/init.d/mysql[6267]: Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists! I hate when I do this... About 30 seconds after the last reply, I tried commenting out the 'expire_logs_days=10' from my.cnf, and mysql started. So... disregard last post. Pressing onward. |

![]() My primary tuner is a PVR-350, which works great. My second tuner is a PVR-150, wich is having a problem. If I record one program with "Schedule Programs" on the 350 and "Watch TV" on the 150, it works fine. If I attempt to schedule a second program on the 150, rather than watch live TV, all I get is a black screen and no recording. I'm confused as to why the tuner works in one case but not the other. Also, the audio volume is significantly louder on live TV than a scheduled recording. ![]() Thanks! Rodd |

Probably best to post that problem in a new thread, you'll get more eyeballs on it ![]() |

![]() If you upgraded search for keyword "archiveitems" for a fix you'll need to do for the MythArchive stuff to work. I haven't had a chance to add a link in the hints thread yet. As for your recording issue with the PVR-150, I'd guess it's a recording profile issue. There are different profiles for Live, Default, Low, Medium, and High quality recordings. Make sure it's using a compatible one. Also don't forget to check your backend log files for any issues. The Troubleshooting pages on the wiki include directions on where to look and what to look for. |

tjc wrote: ![]() So, just to finish up this thread, I did finally upgrade to R5F1, using automatic upgrade. The recreate_lvm.sh is a life saver! The upgrade was pretty smooth; the only significant time spent was with the NVidia driver and the move from XFree86 to Xorg. With VGA, it worked from the get-go, but I'm using DVI out. Anyway, all works now after upgrading. Very slick product!! Thanks again to those that put in all the work for this. I am recommending it to all my friends. ![]() |
