I am looking for a general ballpark figure for what I should expect for boot times into MythTV. From the moment the power is applied to the moment you are at the MythTV menu.

I just loaded my FIRST knoppmyth last night, and with no modifications, it seemed to take about 1 minute.

Also, how long does it / should it take the front end to switch screens in the MythTV menu? I understand the delay is due to loading new modules. It takes about 3 seconds for me. Is that normal?

So:
Setup: Combined frontend/backend. AMD A64 3800+, 1Gig ram, Asus M2NPV-VM mobo ..
Boot Time: ~1 minute
Menu Access Time: ~ 3-4sec

My frontend takes 1min 15sec to get to the MythTV menu from a cold boot. This is R5D1, I found that R5F1 seems to boot much faster (on my test system). Same motherboard as yours with a 3200+. Frontend only.

Depends. There is a lag on my frontend when I go into Program finder for example, as there is a lot of database activity involved in compiling the list of shows. Just going from menu item to menu item is instantaneous however.

A minute sounds right.

Takes about a second to change screens on my system. Straight after boot, though it's maybe 2 or 3. I use the new theme and the images it loads are huge. The images are probably cached so subsequent accesses are much faster.

I have an E6320 with Intel DG965, 2GB RAM and WD5000YS.

yeah, about a minute sounds about right.. once in a while, fschk will kick in, and it's longer.

It also can be longer if the machine has been off for a day or so, and the database fill runs. (although, technically the boot may be done, but the user can't get any decent response.)
