I'm using the PVR-350 TV-out, and it seems like it just hangs there. I've plugged in a computer monitor to the video card (it's headless), and it just stops when it goes to the PVR-350. It has been running fine for the last few months, and all of a sudden this happened. I believe it froze up, which is why I needed to reboot.

I've plopped a live CD in there, and the machine is now running off the CD. Can anybody help point me to the log files that might help me recover the installation. I would hate to lose my recordings, but if it's too much effort I might just do a fresh install of R5F1.

Hi,

If you have another machine and can network to it, try ssh into it and then you could review logs to see what may be the issue. Strange stoppages after running well for a period of time may indicate a record failure which then filled the /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log (df -h = 0 space for / ) When it is not able to record or some other general fault, the log will be filled quickly before the rotation cycle occurs bringing the machine to it's knees.

I forget if the R5E50 has the security enhancement, so try ssh in with your "added user" then su - to become root. You can use putty if windows is all that is available. (or DSL live :) )

Mike

Yeah, I'm ssh'd into it already. Looking at mythbackend.log I see a lot of these errrors:
2007-06-26 21:47:02.880 DB Error (Recorded program delete recordedseek):
Query was:
DELETE FROM recordedseek WHERE chanid = '1003' AND starttime = '2007-06-25T22:17:52';
Driver error was [2/145]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to execute query
Database error was:
Table './mythconverg/recordedseek' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
See Cecil's DB repair sticky posting or grab the optimization script I posted under "Hints & Tips" within the last few weeks. Either one should allow you to do whatever repair is possible on the DB.

In order to run this stuff I would need to be booted into the installation, right? Currently I can't ssh into the server, because it doesn't seem to fully boot. I tried changing my xorg.conf, moving the /etc/init.d files for myth and mysql, but I still can't get to a prompt. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks tjc,

I changed my xorg.conf and all /etc/init.d/myth* and /etc/init.d/mysql* files, and it finally started far enough for me to be able to boot into my Knoppmyth installation and ssh into it. I used your script, and now it's up and running.

<edit> Thought there was a problem mythweb, but the ethernet cable fell out of the router, no problem there </edit>

You can actually do DB repairs as described in Cecil's posting by using the install CD as a rescue disk. See the Troubleshooting pages on the wiki for details.

Cecil also has a pretty good write up here in the forums of how he recovered from a system crash.
