The i686 package is designed to replace the i686 packages not the i586 package. If you process is indeed i686, then as root install-i686-l then apt-get the packages over again.

Ok two stupid questions... How did I get i586 installed? Did I fat finger part of the install of r4v4 probably? Also, do I need to deinstall it before I run the i686 install script? |

trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/mythbackend', which is also in package mythtv-i686-lirc-xvmc dpkg is telling you what the problem is... Youre trying to replace i686-lirc-xvmc with i686-lirc. Only xvmc with replace xvmc. |
