So I'm kinda surprised to find almost nothing via google about this service & Myth. It is live in a number of cities now and I would of thought that the Myth crowd would be among the early adopters. Anyway, I've been using it in the SF Bay Area for a few days now and despite being M$FT powered I have to say I like it a lot. Still, AT&T limits me to one DVR, time for some KnoppMything!

While this is all IP based and Myth in theory works with such systems I'm almost certain it is all encrypted so I doubt you'd get anywhere going down that road. At this point I would be happy to get it working using s-video or whatever. Then there's the problem of pgm listings - datadirect don't seem to know it exists but I guess that won't be a problem for much longer ;-)

And don't forget lirc & IR blasting to the STB models below (found nothing on this via google).

At this point I thought I'd start a thread on it at least, maybe prompt some folks...

Here are some pertinent links:
AT&T: https://uverse1.att.com/launchAMSS.do
STB: Motorola VIP 1216 & 1200 (yes there are others but this is what I have and this is what they seem to be using now & for the near future): http://broadband.motorola.com/catalog/p ... ductID=443
U-Verse users forum: http://www.uverseusers.com/component/op ... 7/#msg3917

Yeah, I realize these links are of little use, but feel free to post anything more interesting & helpful that you may have found....

U-Verse could have been interesting if there were a way to get HD program streams out of the darned box. But with the limitations you mention (no program guide for one) I don't see how U-Verse will ever be useful to a Myth box.

Sadly this is exactly what cable operators want -- a locked-in box that you can't use any other way. They control what you can record, how long you can keep it, etc., etc.

If it weren't for FCC demands, the cable companies would have left off the firewire port. As it is, it barely works in many if not most cases. Since U-Verse and Verizon FIOS are technically not cable, they are not bound by the same rules. Result -- no ports.

It's a sad, sad future for home entertainment. The big companies won't rest until your living room is their pay-per-view theater.

What about an HDMI or DVI capture card + IR blaster?

There is no way to capture HD at the HDMI or DVI level. At that point the video is decompressed and it would take WAY too much storage space to save the video. The only effective way to record HD is to record it before decompression while its still an MPEG2 transport stream.

For now I am happy living w/o HD (I can hear the gasps from here...). After much googling I can't find a irblasterd.conf for the Motorola VIP 1200 box, any ideas? I have never used an IR Blaster befoer so I am kinda new to this aspect of Myth/KM/lirc/etc
