| Post subject: | Can MythTV/KnoppMyth use my NAS? |
I'm working on a project to build a Network Attached Storage server, and I'm curious if I could get my Myth box(es) to record and play from my NAS server (FreeNAS.org) Just curious  If I spend money for a 1tb drive for the NAS, can I share the space with Myth?

What I would do, is record to a local HD, and store music and saved videos on the NAS. That way you have a more stable platform for recording, and the static media can reside on your NAS. |

I was starting to think the same thing. The Myth's local drive is, of course, much more stable to it's local machine, and would not cause worries of network latency causing shows to skip... Whereas archiving to the NAS isn't dependent on network speed. |

MythTV does care... As long as KnoppMyth can mount the NAS, you should have no issues. I record SD and HD from my SBE to my MBE via NFS w/o issue. |

I've been using a 1Tb NASLite+ box for storage of videos and music on my Knoppmyth box from the outset. I just followed the How To on NFS mounts here: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=NFSHowTo In my opinion, NASLite is a better choice than FreeNAS or any of the half dozen others I tried out first. http://www.serverelements.com/ DaveJ45 |

This is exactly what I do, and it works great. My NAS is a 1.25TB Debian server that shares it's data using Samba. |
