Post subject:  Listening to music via mythweb

Hi,

I like to listen to my music collection on various computers throughout my house, all of which are windows apart from my mythbox. Now while i can happily log into the mythweb interface and browse through my music, i find it quite annoying that i have to click on a song and then go back to the list of songs to find the next one. Is there any program i can use either on my windows boxes (tried songbird but no luck with that) or mythbox which will kind of allow me to play my songs in a more user friendly format?

Many thanks

just share your /myth/music (or simply the whole /myth dir) out to your network via nfs or smb (samba). then you should be able to play the music via any number of music players, songbird included (and itunes and winamp and...). instructions for sharing via nfs and smb are all over this bboard and on the wiki. just search.

Samba is preconfigured to share the whole of /myth but switched off by default.

To start it just run: /etc/init.d/samba start

To set it to start on boot: update-rc.d samba defaults

Bonza, cheers guys. What about if i do want to listen to it outside of my network, will i have to use flamplayer (or similar) or is there an approach whereby i will be able to use songbird (or similar).

I personally use gnump3d (apt-get install gnump3d with any deb based distro, may be the case with knoppmyth too, but I have not tried it)to stream my music to anywhere I am outside of my LAN.

My setup may be a bit different from the standard, as I have all of my music stored on a separate server with it mounted via nfs over the top of /myth/music and the rest of my media (video, games, etc.) stored on the myth backend.

Side note: I heard ampache was a decent streaming app and a bit more full featured, but I have yet to try it. It does appear to be a bit more work to set up as it requires php and mysql, while gnump3d only requires you to point it to the main folder that houses all your music.

Hope that helps

How can I make gnump3d work with SSL... as it is, I have it set up, but can't access that port. Can I bind that port to a directory (ie "http://localhost/gnump3d/")?

Thanks
