Hello all,

Congrats to everyone on the brilliant work on R5F27. I'm up and running again (from R5C7 which was upgraded previously from R5A16). I like to do a fresh instlall, so I dump my DB, save my filesystem and go from scratch.

I seem to be having a resolution and/or font size issue. I'm using the retro theme and now the text on the menus are truncated. In particular, on the TV menu my "Schedule Recordings" listing is just "Schedule Recor..."

I've tried playing with various font sizes but it only seems to scale up and down my recordings playback menu, not the main menu set.

I have a funny feeling maybe I'm only outputting 640x480, whereas before I was 800x600. I looked in the xorg.conf and 800x600 is listed first. Is there an easy way to test my resolution?

Can someone recommend optimal font settings for a standard 32" TV for Retro? I seem to recall tuning a font or two somewhere in the distant past but I can't recall how.

Thanks,

-J

Looks like I am at 800x600 so it must be something else...

X.org saysin I'm 8x6:

(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "800x600"

Did the theme change in some way? Can anyone else confrim that they are or are not getting the truncation I mentioned?

Also, still love to hear about optimal font settings for a CRT 32" TV.

Thanks,

-J

I use Retro as my theme. I'm seeing this too. This is a problem that is occurring from the upgrade. I reinstalled R5F27 on a swapped in blank harddrive (I was trying to troubleshoot a separate problem) and the text was not truncated at all or as bold.

Hmm, I am on a fresh install.

With the exception of inserting my oldrecorded db table and my recorded table so I could see my left over recordings, the rest of the system is a fresh install.

Very strange.

What is your DPI in your xorg.conf set at?

Code:
Option "DPI" "100 x 100"

It is set to 100 x 100, same as your example.

Is that good or bad?

I'm seeing the same thing in Retro, but for me it started after upgrading R5E50->R5F1 In that upgrade I eventually fixed it by tweaking the theme directly. After upgrading to R5F27 the clipped text is back, and I have not had the time to retrace my steps to figure out what I changed last time.

I'll try to remember to post back what I changed, but I know it won't be today.

BTW, xdpyinfo on the front end is another good way to confirm if you're running at 800x600-100dpi

I found the fix.

I went ahead and dropped my DPI from "100 x 100" to "75 x 75" in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it formats properly now.

Thanks for the tip.

PS - A big thanks to the retro theme developer, its very clean and professional.
