Post subject: | Installing knoppmyth. What is the patcher? |
Hi, I just built the hardware yesterday (which went super smoothly and I got the BIOS upon boot up! woohoo!). I downloaded knoppmyth (md5 checked fine). I noticed that there's also a patcher script. What's this for? It's not mentioned in the knoppmyth pamphlet. Should I run it after I've installed the distribution? Or, since it's not an upgrade, I should just ignore it?? Also, the pamphlet discusses zap2it, but now there's a new system! Any links to what to do now (to get the listings)? Thanks! FRA |

The patcher is run automatically. It's a mechanism added in the R5F1 time frame to provide simple post release corrections. All you need to do is answer questions if it pops up a dialog... It's not mentioned specifically in the docs because it generally takes care of itself. |

Since the ISO is dated May 11 and the PATCHER is dated Aug 7, I presume Cecil meant that the patcher is automatically copied down from the internet during install, not that the patcher was put inside the iso without touching the iso file time stamp. Either way, the fact that it is run automatically is news to me. Thanks for all your hard work Cecil and I do wish you good luck on the Sept 9 build. (I have been watching the date on the ftp Alpha directory) |
