Is there a way to change the name of a LVM volume group?

When I originally set up my LVM I was following the manual instructions (many moons ago) and screwed something up. When I had tried to make volume group "VG" it told me that it already existed but would not let me do the lvcreate command. By the time I got it to work I had to set everthing up as volume group "VG1".
Now I can not use the standard scripts to upgrade.
The volume group VG still exists but is empty(I think???). Is there a way to delete the empty VG group and rename the VG1 volume group to VG.
Thanks for any help.

Regarding the VG volume group - You are looking for vgremove/lvremove. You would first need to use lvremove to remove any logical volumes within the volume group, then vgremove to remove the volume group. man lvremove and man vgremove for more information. lvdisplay and vgdisplay will show you what is configured, if anything.

Lastly, once you are sure that VG is gone, use lvrename and vgrename to rename your LV and VG. I strongly suggest you read through each of the command's man pages before going through this exercise...
