Post subject: | Configuration infinite loop |
I am trying to install Knoppmyth R5F27. When it gets to the Configuration script, it asks me for the admin password, then about DHCP Broadcasting, then after some other stuff if finally says something like "initializing MythTV database" and after resetting X11 it goes right back to asking me for the admin password, then DHCP broadcasting, etc... then back to the admin password... In other words, the Configuration script is running over and over, without exiting and going on with the rest of the MythTV setup. I am using a fairly basic Pentium III system with a PVR-150. -Marc Barrett |

Hmmm. During our testing, the only thing that we encountered that would cause X to restart (there by going into a loop, but one one), was if the time wasn't synced. By the time NTP got the correct time and sync, this would cause X to restart. So, if the time on your system accurate? |

When the installer asks me for the time zone and local time information, I enter the information as properly as I know how. I tell it I live in the central time zone of the U.S., and I give it the current time in MMDDHHMM format. OK, maybe I'm off by a minute or two, but no more. Beyond that I don't have any idea where I could be going wrong with the time setup. |

Is this an upgrade or a fresh install? Did you get into the mythtv-setup screen with General, Capture Cards, Video Sources, etc.? If it's an upgrade you need to make sure none of your Video Sources are using zap2It (DataDirect). Change them to SD. |

Totally fresh install of R5F27. I could not get past the Configuration script. After it asks about DHCP broadcasting (setting up my network) it always goes right back to asking for the admin password. |

Something is truly amiss w/ your setup. Perhaps a new CMOS battery? |

Hi, Try booting the cd and then run the self test, a defective cd, bad burn, or even a corrupt download could cause your strange issues. I actually had a bad download about a week ago, first one in several years so it can occur. Mike |

If it's spontaneously restarting and not prompting you to switch from zap2it to SchedulesDirect, then X is probably restarting because the difference between the default time and the corrected time are too great. It shouldn't happen to you more than once, though. ![]() |

The same system works almost totally fine under Fedora 7. I haven't been able to get X11 to work on the PVR-350's TV-out, but otherwise it works fine. (I took the 350 out before trying to install Knoppmyth, because I wanted to minimize possible complications) |

When exactly does X11 restart? Is it always at the same point? And this is a fresh install, not an upgrade, correct? |

I ran into this problem last night doing my upgrade. Deleting the video sources and restarting the pc work for me to end the loop. I couldn't even retrieve the channel info from SD til after the reboot but after that everything worked perfectly. |

Please describe the exact behavior you saw. There is an intended Upgrade loop that will keep launching mythtv-setup until you either define a SchedulesDirect account or choose some other supported channel source. Any other looping is probably a bug, but it's hard to tell what's causing your looping without descriptions. |

human - I had the same exact experience that the OP had. Upgrading from r5f1 to r5f27. The installer didn't ask for the time/date if I recall correctly. After reboot I ran the reconfig lvm script, then provided the root password to finish the rest of the upgrade process. After lirc, irblaster and other scripts it looped back to waiting for the root password. Thanks to reading this post I checked that the date/time was correct from a terminal then alt-s to go in and delete the video source. That fixed it, but had to restart to get the connection to schedules direct working. It would not retrieve the lineup until i restarted. So my problem was the intended upgrade loop. Just wanted to give an fyi to anyone upgrading for the schedules direct and running into this. |
